I am not an agent who happens to list waterfront homes. I am a Sausalito waterfront resident — 17 years on the docks — who spends weekends sailing, wing foiling, e-foiling, and puttering about in my Boston Whaler. I know this world because I live it.

That lived experience — combined with a Master's degree in Urban Planning from UC Berkeley and years of hands-on experience purchasing and rehabilitating homes — gives me an analytical and practical edge that most agents simply cannot offer.

I provide clients with creative, intelligent and sound counsel — a positive attitude and the comprehensive perspective of an urban planner, investor, and broker all at once.

Steve Sekhon, Maison Marin

Broker. Water Person.

Steve Sekhon graduated from UC Berkeley with a BA in International Development and went on to earn a Master's Degree in Urban Planning. After a research fellowship in India, he joined a Washington D.C.-based international planning firm and worked in Morocco, Tunisia, Bosnia, Cambodia, and Southern Sudan.

Upon returning to the Bay Area, he worked with Jerry Brown as a research and policy advisor during Brown's run for Mayor of Oakland. He then began purchasing and rehabilitating houses — managing every aspect from design and permits through finish and staging for sale.

Today Steve lives on the Sausalito waterfront — 17 years on the docks — and spends weekends sailing, wing foiling, e-foiling, and puttering about in his Boston Whaler. He brings that authentic, lived-on-the-water perspective to every property he represents.

"It took an introduction to Steve Sekhon, a Compass real estate agent who also lives in a Sausalito houseboat, to convince them to move ahead… A large part of Sekhon's business is houseboat sales — a different beast from other real estate."

Built on Real Knowledge

Most agents know real estate. I know the water, the structures, the regulations, and the community — and I know how to tell a property's story so buyers feel it before they arrive.

01

Floating Home Mastery

I've lived on Sausalito's docks for over a decade. Hull types, slip agreements, live-aboard permits, dock fees, insurance, specialized financing — I know every dimension of floating home transactions that out-of-market agents miss. Visit my dedicated Sausalito houseboat site →

02

Builder's Eye

With years of hands-on experience purchasing and rehabilitating homes — managing every aspect from design and permits through finish and staging — I evaluate a property's structural reality with precision.

03

Urban Planning Lens

My UC Berkeley graduate degree means I read zoning, density, permit history, and long-term value trajectories the way other agents read comps — a distinct analytical edge for complex Marin properties.

04

Compelling Listings

I write narrative-driven listing copy that makes buyers feel the life a property offers before they schedule a showing. Presentation and storytelling are core to my seller strategy — and they produce results.

05

Dual Perspective

Having represented buyers and sellers across hundreds of transactions, I evaluate every property from both sides — what creates value, what raises red flags, and how to position your home for maximum return.

06

Compass Network

Access to the Compass Coming Soon program, private exclusives, and a national network that brings qualified buyers — including those relocating to the Bay Area — directly to my listings.

Marin's Finest Waterfront

Sausalito Floating Homes
My Home · 17 Years on the Docks
Sausalito's floating home community is one of the most unique and storied neighborhoods in America. From the bohemian creativity of Gate 5 Road to the deep-water elegance of Issaquah Dock, I know every dock, every slip, and every nuance of this market — because I live here. If you are buying or selling a floating home, there is no substitute for an agent who actually lives on the water.
Sausalito
Waterfront Village · Hillside Homes · Views
Sausalito is one of the Bay Area's most coveted addresses — a Mediterranean-style waterfront village with stunning views of San Francisco, Angel Island, and Richardson Bay. From the charming commercial streets of Bridgeway to the hillside homes above, Sausalito offers a rare combination of natural beauty, walkability, and community character that continues to attract discerning buyers.
Tiburon
Peninsula Living · Bay Views · Top Schools
Tiburon sits on a stunning peninsula jutting into the Bay, offering some of the most dramatic water views in all of Marin. The town combines the charm of a small downtown with easy ferry access to San Francisco, excellent schools, and a range of properties from cozy cottages to grand waterfront estates. It is a perennially strong market with broad appeal to families and lifestyle buyers alike.
Belvedere
Island Exclusivity · Panoramic Views · Privacy
Belvedere is one of the most exclusive communities in the entire Bay Area — a small island city connected to Tiburon by a causeway, with sweeping 360-degree views of the Bay, San Francisco, and Marin. With a strictly limited housing stock, exceptional privacy, and some of the most architecturally significant homes in the region, Belvedere represents the pinnacle of Marin County luxury real estate.
Strawberry & Marin County
Family-Friendly · Nature · County-Wide
Strawberry is one of Marin's most sought-after family neighborhoods — a quiet, wooded peninsula between Mill Valley and Tiburon with excellent schools, hiking trails, and easy highway access. Beyond Strawberry, I work throughout Marin County including Mill Valley, Corte Madera, San Anselmo, and Fairfax, bringing the same market depth and analytical rigor to every transaction regardless of neighborhood.

Your Home at Its
Highest Potential

Selling a waterfront or floating home requires more than an MLS listing. It requires a specialist who understands the engineering, the lifestyle, the community, and the unique buyer psychology that drives these transactions.

"We are first-time home buyers who didn't think we were positioned to buy a floating home. Steve taught us, guided us, advocated for us, and protected us. His patience was bottomless. He handled everything — financing, inspections, insurance for a home on the water. We moved in during a pandemic in 5 weeks."
